Wet basements

  Basement gallery by project

Whether you are finishing your basement or not you should keep it as dry as possible. A wet basement can dramatically reduce the value of your home. Majority of people won’t even consider buying a home that has water leakage. Peeling paint, Damp Spots on Walls, WhiteSubstance on Basement Walls, Cracked Walls, Rust on Appliances or Furniture, Dry Rot are the most common signs of a wet basement. First step is to determine if your basement is wet because of water condensation or water seepage.

Water condensation – When air comes in contact with any cold surface, any moisture in the air is rapidly cooled which causes it to condensate. Any cold water pipe (if not insulated) is the best example of condensation. Proper air circulation and keeping your basement at a room temperature is the solution to keep air dry.

Water seepage – Moisture is getting inside your basement from the outside through cracks, poorly insulated windows or seeping through concrete walls. Properly fixing cracks, insulating windows and waterproofing foundation walls will keep your basement dry.
